Character Counts at Butterfield

At Butterfield Elementary School STEAM Academy, we understand the importance of teaching our students the core values they will need to become successful members of society. We will use the Character Counts Program to teach, model, and reinforce the six pillars of character. The Character Counts Program aligns with our school vision: A community dedicated to inspiring life-long learners with positive character traits. In addition, we have aligned our school's rules to coincide with the pillars of character: Take Care of Yourself, Take Care of Others, and Take Care of Butterfield.

In order to teach students each pillar individually, we will focus on one pillar each month. We have assigned each grade level a specific pillar. Each grade level will be responsible for planning school-wide activities, events, and student incentives to create a fun atmosphere in which students learn about the importance of displaying good character. Our school's PTO sells shirts that coincide with the specific color that each pillar represents. You may order these T-shirts in the front office. Please support this program by discussing the six pillars of character with your child at home. Let's work together to create Bobcats that are "TRRFCC" OR TERRIFIC!

Each month starting in September, grade levels perform a song for the school and we recognize two students per classroom that have best demonstrated that pillar of the month. Those students and their parents are invited to attend these assemblies and "hand printing" ceremonies at lunch.
